The International Production and Processing Expo (IPPE) lands in Atlanta, US, this week, showcasing the latest meat and poultry technology.
The tradeshow merges the International Poultry Expo, International Feed Expo, and International Meat Expo, bringing production, safety, analysis and packaging technologies under one roof.
FoodProductionDaily.com is live at the expo and highlights some of the machines and materials on display.
Verdad N16 from Corbion Purac is a natural ferment, labelled as cultured corn sugar and vinegar, designed to give ready-to-eat meat producers a safe, consumer-friendly ingredient. The minimally processed product controls the growth of Listeria in cured meats up to 120 days.
According to the manufacturer, Verdad N16 can be used at lower levels than other lactate/di-acetate-containing preservatives. The potassium-based ingredient can be used in low-sodium formulations.
Tomra Sorting Solutions is showing its QVision 500 fat analyzer, a unit that gauges moisture, protein, color and fat levels at the same time, in real time. The instrument reportedly penetrates far into the meat, measuring across the conveyor belt’s full 500-mm width.
The analyzer can be used on fresh or frozen ground meat, of any grind size. It also is suitable for diced meat and small trim pieces.

Ossid is showing a number of packaging machines geared toward meat processing operations. The 500E leak-resistant overwrapper produces tightly wrapped, high or low-profile, end-sealed, case-ready packs at up to 60 trays per minute.
The 500im intermittent-motion stretch overwrapper, suited for red meat, pork, poultry and produce, is intended for packers that require a combination of quality performance and entry-level price. Features include an open stainless-steel frame, and a wrap rate of up to 35 trays per minute.
Items showcased by Multisorb include MAPLOX, a low-oxygen, case-ready product line that reportedly maintains freshness, flavor and color in case-ready meats. The FreshPax CR oxygen absorbers are optimized for master bag and gas flush systems.
The MAPLOX program includes package engineering support. Staff can provide recommendations for material specifications, vacuum/gas flush equipment, gas mixture composition and more.
Food-grade conveyor belts
The FlatClean belts, from Gates Mectrol, now come in 48in. widths, in 2mm and 3mm thicknesses. All of the belts are built with easy-to-clean urethane. Additionally, they are designed with sealed Kevlar tension cords to eliminate stretch.
According to the company, the 2mm belt is the first dual-durometer food grade belt on the market. The different coefficients of friction reportedly provide better abrasion resistance and more grab, allowing for a smaller pulley diameter and better handoffs between conveyors than similar products.
Thiele Technology is displaying a range of cartoning, casepacking and palletizing equipment in its booth. The Streamfeeder line includes automated machines for commercial printing, contract packaging and other applications, including stand-alone feeding, dispensing and placing units.
The company’s Hudson-Sharp division will be on hand to discuss its plastic bag-making machinery, pouch-making equipment and reclosable packaging solutions. It also has plastic film-converting equipment for making plastic bags and pre-made pouches.
Zep’s Apex Egg Defoam Plus is a non-silicone, free-rinsing defoamer for use in alkaline and acid cleaning operations. The product will be shown along with the company’s egg-washing systems and antimicrobial treatments for egg and poultry applications.
Apex Egg Defoam Plus is clear, colorless, and leaves no objectionable odor. The concentrated, dilutable product comes in 55-gal drums and 275-gal totes.
