The World Health Organisation has delivered its direst warning yet about the implications of swine flu stating that “All of humanity is under threat.”
WHO director general Dr Margaret Chan made the statement as the organisation upgraded the alert over swine flu from level four to five. This means that human-to-human transmission has occurred in at least two countries. “It’s a strong signal that a pandemic is imminent,” according to WHO.
But Dr Chan stressed that the world is better prepared to withstand a pandemic that at any time previously. Also, she added, eating properly cooked pork is safe.
